The dairy farms in Sullivan County would use ice harvested from Pleasure Lake to keep the milk products cold while they were shipped to NYC by rail. If you are looking to do something a little different or are a geocaching fan, check out this! (Be warned ... it is very wet and muddy going in to the first 20 feet of the tunnel on both sides) Geocaching.com Tunnelvision Link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=04ec1660-1133-47de-a8b4-c5c8d57aee33 Paul C. The History of the Town of FallsburgPrepared for the Sullivan County Historical Society by Judy Magie.
Describes the O&W Rail line and the milk industry which instituted an important ice business on Alto Lake (Echo Lake) and Pleasure Lake which employed hundreds of men during the winter to cut and store the ice for the railroad's use during the warm months to keep the milk cool. http://www.sullivancountyhistory.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=52&Itemid=81weeblylink_new_window New Fishing Regulations Have Been Adopted by DEC for use of Bait Fish
The new bait fish transport regulations went into effect on June 29, 2011. New regulations restrict the sale and transport of baitfish, and also require that people fishing with baitfish carry a receipt issued within 10 days of purchase or be subject to a $150 fine.
Any person who has a fishing license may collect minnows to fish in the same lake. Personally collected baitfish intended to be used as bait may only be used in the same water body from which they were caught for bait in hook-and-line fishing. Click below to read the full text of the regulations: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/47282.html Septic Maintenance is ImportantIf you have a cabin on Pleasure Lake and do not have Town sewer service, it is important that your septic system be professionally inspected and the tank pumped in regular periodic intervals. A typical septic tank used seasonally should be pumped, cleaned, and inspected by a licensed professional about every 3-5 years. The time interval depends on results of the inspections, the size of your septic tank, and your cabin's water use, and often needs to be done more frequently. For more information, visit:
