News for Pleasure Lake Members
Announcements (January 2023)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The 2022 Season was terrific ... and 2023
is shaping up to be even better!!!
Our water quality has been clear but we continue to
test, watch for sources of potential problems upstream and
advocate for clean water and environmental protection.
No large contractor trucks or deliveries are allowed on lake roads until April 1st, 2023. This is to prevent any large accidents or environmental disasters if one of these large trucks happened to slide on icy roads anywhere toward the lake waters.
For Wintertime sports and ice-fishing on Pleasure Lake, we have noticed over the past few weeks that the thickness of the ice has been wildly inconsistent from day to day ... sometimes the ice is 4" thick and the next day non-existent. Please use extreme caution when venturing out on the ice.
A reminder that FF&BC ByLaws restrict ice fishing only to members and their immediate family (Chapter X, Section 2) along with up to two guests so long as the members accompany any guests who are ice-fishing. Fishing holes are not to be larger than 10" in diameter.
New York State DEC's Ice Safety Tips posted January 14th, 2023:
Much of New York is experiencing a milder than usual winter leading to unsafe ice conditions on many waters, please be extra cautious when heading out for a day of fishing.
Tips & Guidance:
* Four inches of solid, clear ice is a safe thickness if venturing out on foot. Be sure to periodically check the thickness as you move further out.
* Avoid ice near open water or around docks. Dock owners occasionally use bubblers to prevent thick ice from forming and damaging them.
* Carry ice safety picks. They can help you pull yourself out of the water should you break through the ice.
Store-bought or homemade work just fine.
* Let someone know where you're going to fish and when you plan on returning.
Getting out there during the hard water season is fun, but definitely not worth risking your life.
Call To 2023 Semi-Annual Meeting -
Memorial Day Weekend - May 2023
We look forward to seeing all our members after the winter season.
Our annual Work Party will be on Saturday, May 27, 2023 and our Semi-Annual Meeting will be on May 28, 2023. Keep an eye out later this Spring for our official Fallsburg Fishing & Boating Club meeting notice.
DUMPSTER IS CURRENTLY CLOSED & UNAVAILABLE IN THE WINTER. The Board has worked with Thompson Sanitation to increase our service frequency during the summer and have replaced our dumpster to provide a larger capacity.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PATIENCE!
Our recycling is now a single stream system, so starting in the Spring all cans, bottles and FLATTENED cardboard go in the same smaller dumpster for pickup and sorting at the Thompson facility. Keep doing a great job!
Please stay vigilant - the Lake remains clear and in excellent shape throughout most of the year, but warm weather conditions in the summer can set up lakes around NYS for the “bad” algae to collect into a HAB (harmful algal bloom). Be especially careful with dogs and children if you spot a HAB condition. We will continue to watch this year, but please use caution as HABs often move around depending on wind and other conditions. Our frequent testing gives us good & timely information, but we all need to stay vigilant.
Thanks so much to Bill V and Mick M & our caretaker Jim R for their hard work keeping our water levels where they need to be during all seasons and for ensuring that our dam remains safe and well maintained! New dam boards are in place and our water levels are currently at lowered winter levels. Our 10 year engineering study for the dam was completed and our annual DEC inspection showed that all is in good shape.
Check the Member Documents password protected page for more info.

"This includes canoes, kayaks, rowboats and motorboats ..." NYS Nav. Law Section 40.1(e).
Fines will return:
All members should ensure that your road ditch is clear and water can run freely – this is critical to keep our roads in good shape at this time. Please note that Members who fail to do so will be fined.
Note that information on events and latest news, forms and updates are regularly posted here on our web site.
Members and family may also join our FaceBook Pleasure Lake Group for timely news updates, event reminders, photos, social messages and neighborhood items of interest. Request to join at:
The dumpster is currently CLOSED FOR THE WINTER - when it opens in the Spring, it will ONLY be open for members' household garbage (nothing is to be placed around the dumpster (no BBQs, boats, chairs etc). Please continue to separate your recyclables and PLEASE BREAK DOWN CARDBOARD BOXES!
Please remember that our cameras at the dumpster are operational and fines will be imposed for any improper dumping.
Kindly note that our treasurer information has changed. If you need to contact her or have not yet received a notice from her, please let us know and we will provide the contact information. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding during the treasurer transition.
More news and updates are shared periodically in membership emails, on the Events tab of this website and on our Facebook Group Page.
Keep up the good work everyone!
As always, it is important to remind everyone to
stay safe and use common sense since road conditions are constantly changing.
Avoid soft areas during and after storm events.
Parking areas at the yellow gate and at the clubhouse are always open for your use.
Please be sure that all docks and boats are properly secured so that they do not break free during storm events, etc.
House Rule AW (Amended)
As part of our ongoing efforts to preserve the Pleasure Lake watershed, and at the direction of the membership at the Club's Annual Meeting on September 2, 2018, the Board of Directors has amended House Rule AW (effective 1/1/2019):
“A new member land preservation assessment fee of $3,000 will be collected from every new member to the Club upon any transfer of a share except a transfer between spouses or between a parent and a child where no consideration is exchanged. Revenues from the new member land preservation assessment fee shall be deposited in the Club’s Land Purchase Fund. Such assessment fee shall apply to any transfer of shares occurring on or after January 1, 2019. The purpose of this assessment is to assist with the funding plan to preserve Pleasure Lake and its surrounding watershed. The Club’s Land Purchase Fund has been established to help fund acquisitions of interests or rights in real property for the preservation of Pleasure Lake’s watershed, including preservation of open space, brooks or streams flowing into the lake and preservation of forested lands surrounding Pleasure Lake. (Amended 09/18/2018)”
PLEASE BE SURE ALL USED BOATS UTILIZE THE NEW
CLEANING STATION AT THE CLUBHOUSE BEFORE
THEY ARE LAUNCHED INTO PLEASURE LAKE.
Launch sites are located at the Clubhouse and
on the West Shore (between the dam and the hill)
Amended House Rule AO Adopted by Membership:
AO. All boats new to the lake (including guest boats which must bear the name of the member in 3 inch letters) must first be approved by the Board of Directors. For a boat previously used on any other lake or waterway, the member will be required to provide to the Board of Directors proof of steam cleaning of the used boat, or certify that the boat has been checked, cleaned and dried/disinfected in accordance with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation regulation 6 NYCRR Part 576 Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention; in addition, every boat/watercraft (as well as equipment trailer) from another lake or waterway as well as any Pleasure Lake boat that has been stored anywhere outside Club property must be cleaned and inspected at the clubhouse cleaning station and the member must certify completion in the log prior to being launched into Pleasure Lake by members and/or third-parties in order to prevent the spread of any aquatic invasive species (AIS) in the Pleasure Lake environment. Our FF&BC Memorial Tribute area is a great place for members to remember a past member or loved one in a very special way here at Pleasure Lake.
A patio area with two stone benches has been constructed behind dam (southwest side), & it has been very well received by the members.
Engraved pavers can be purchased for only $50 to remember former members or loved ones who have passed away; those pavers will be mounted on the wall of the dam facing the new memorial patio and benches. We hope you agree that this is a tasteful and appropriate way to remember those who helped to make Pleasure Lake such a special place.
Feel free to click into our new Memorial Tributes page
on this website for more information.
NYS Law now also requires all people born in 1997 or after to hold a Boater's Certificate in order to operate a motorboat of any kind.
Please be sure to comply with these important laws to ensure your safety.
THANKS TO ALL OUR MEMBERS!!!
